Betsy Makes Light Work of Pumping Duties at Peter Duffy Limited

12.06.2003

Peter Duffy Limited, the Yorkshire based Civil Engineering & Utility Services Contractor, purchased Betsy, the diesel driven pump set from Hidrostal Limited – a company who have built their reputation around developing cost effective pumping solutions.

The Hidrostal Betsy pump set was developed to meet the growing demand for a mobile self-priming pumping package that is efficient, reliable and environmentally friendly. It is modular in design to allow the best components on the market to be used and to make maintenance and replacement of parts as straight forward and as easy as possible. At its heart, is the Hidrostal screw centrifugal impeller, recognised for its operating efficiency and its ability to pump both clean and solid-laden liquids – sewage, slurry, sludge, bentonite, viscous material, etc. It has a patented vacuum system that will switch off automatically when the pump is primed, saving energy and reducing wear and tear. The optional start-stop by level control sensors also means that the pump will automatically be switched off when the levels set are reached. As a result of combining the high efficiency solids handling pump with the energy-saving electronic vacuum system a smaller diesel engine is used so improving fuel consumption. To complete the package, the whole pump, including the fully bunded fuel tank, is placed in an acoustic canopy to enable the unrestricted deployment of Betsy in noise sensitive areas.

At the time Peter Duffy Limited were looking for a new pump to add to their small fleet of pumps which are used daily for emergency and sewerage pumping duties across Yorkshire.

The Hidrostal Betsy pump set fit all their desired requirements. As explained by Peter Duffy, Managing Director, ‘It met our requirements, as not only was it portable but there were a number of features that we also liked. The Hidrostal screw centrifugal pump has a reputation for pumping virtually anything, and the float system meant we could work it intermittently. We have now been working with Betsy for a year and are very pleased with its performance. In addition, it is quiet and compact, easy to maintain and service and has consistently low fuel consumption.’
