Allweiler Centrifugal Pumps Used for Heat Carrier Systems

A biomass power plant and two district heating stations in Güssing, Austria depend on the quality and reliability of Allweiler ALLHEAT pumps.

The ALLHEAT series is an innovative line of pumps for moving heattransfer liquids. The European center for renewable energy in Güssing uses fifteen of these pumps. The pumps move district warm and hot water at temperatures of up to 150 °C in a biomass power plant and in the two long-distance heating stations for generating heat.

Previously used pumps from other manufacturers had very serious problems with their shaft seals. Mechanical seals and stuffing box packings wore out after only a few weeks and had to be continuously replaced. But now, thanks to the innovative construction of the Allweiler ALLHEAT pumps, the mechanical seals are subject to only very low thermal loads, which reduces service and downtime to a minimum.

In addition to these pumps, the biomass power plant in Güssing uses Allweiler progressing cavity pumps to move sludge created during fluegas cleaning as well as magnetically coupled centrifugal pumps from the ALLMAG series for pumping contaminated biodiesel. Another power plant is currently in planning stages; it will use a steam turbine to convert wood dust into electricity. Here as well, the engineers have chosen Allweiler pumps.

Richard Geider, operational director of the Güssing biomass plant: “The extensive selection of displacement and centrifugal pumps makes Allweiler the ideal pump supplier for us. Above all, the excellent product quality and their ability to deliver on-time are very important for our operation. The Allweiler team provides competent, fast, and flexible support and they always give us excellent advice.”

Founded in 1860, Allweiler AG is the oldest German pump manufacturer and the European market and technology leader for centrifugal, propeller, screw, eccentric spiral, rotary lobe, macerator, and peristaltic pumps. Allweiler AG owns a foundry and produces ready-to-use fuel skids and rinsing-water facilities. Allweiler AG has their main German headquarters in Radolfzell on Lake Constance as well as a major subsidiary in Bottrop, Germany. Since 1998, Allweiler AG has been part of the Colfax Pump Group, a global leader among pump manufacturers. In 2003, Allweiler’s 900 employees achieved sales of 144 million euros (previous year: 157 million euros).
