Family Gateway will use the donation to upgrade outdated and inefficient HVAC equipment in 28 of their family units.

The donation is funded by entry fees from the 2013 AHR Expo Innovation Awards Program. Every year, AHR Expo donates the Awards entry fees to not-for-profit organizations in cities where the Expo is being held. Since the Awards’ inception, more than $110,000 has been donated to organizations throughout the US. Many such organizations have used the donation to enhance their HVAC systems or help train industry technicians.

Named Homeless Services Agency of the Year at the 2012 Help the Homeless Awards, Family Gateway has been providing services to families in need in the Dallas area for more than 27 years. Family Gateway’s facilities, programs and community partnerships are designed to serve the needs of families in need by providing children and their parents with a nurturing, family centered environment, along with counseling and training. Having served over 5,000 families and more than 9,800 children, the organization strives to enable families to become self-sufficient.

With the donation from AHR Expo, Family Gateway will be able to replace the motors of old air conditioning systems and to replace manual thermostats with more energy efficient digital models. This HVAC system upgrade will significantly reduce the facilities’ annual energy costs and help the facilities to become more energy efficient so that they may continue to serve the Dallas community.

“We are delighted to donate the entry fees from the AHR Expo Innovation Awards Competition to such a worthy organization that is dedicated to helping homeless children and their families,” said Clay Stevens, President of International Exposition Company, which produces and manages the AHR Expo. “The Innovation Awards provide several benefits as they help promote innovation in the HVACR industry, recognize innovative companies, and benefit charitable organizations.”
