Flowserve Announces Order for CALDER Desalination Energy-Recovery Units
Flowserve Corporation announced another order for CALDER Dual Work Exchanger Energy-Recovery (DWEER) units from Hydrochem (S) Pte Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hyflux Ltd. The order was booked in the second quarter of 2010.
The DWEER energy-recovery systems will be used in the Salalah Independent Water and Power Plant (Salalah IWPP) in Oman to recover energy from the high-pressure brine stream in the seawater reverse-osmosis (SWRO) process. The Salalah IWPP, which consists of a 445-megawatt gas-fired power plant and a 68,000 cubic-meter-per-day (17.96 million-gallons-per-day) reverse-osmosis seawater desalination plant, is expected to begin full commercial operation in the first half of 2012.

Flowserve CALDER products and technologies specialize in the design, engineering and supply of energy-recovery equipment and related proprietary technologies for the reverse-osmosis process used in desalination plants around the world. CALDER energy-recovery technology is designed to capture and reuse waste energy in the desalination process, lowering net energy consumption and improving overall process efficiency.
The Hyflux order is the second major order for Flowserve CALDER this quarter. On May 11, Flowserve announced an order for CALDER DWEER units for the Sorek seawater desalination plant.
