Around 359 billion cubic meters of wastewater is produced globally each year. As well as municipal wastewater, a broad range of industrial processes produce wastewater, such as chemical manufacturing, food processing and powerplants.

Climate change can only be successfully combated if a comprehensive circular economy can be established. The technologies required for this are available – a large number of mechanical engineering companies have been demonstrating this at the world’s leading trade fair IFAT Munich 2024 last week. However, a circular economy also requires the right political guidelines – and there is still a huge gap here.

Established in 1945, the British Pump Manufacturers Association (BPMA), which represents the business interests of UK and Irish suppliers of liquid pumps and pump related equipment has enjoyed further membership growth in recent weeks, with four new members joining the Association.

In the fight against climate change, it is important to explore new ways. However, sometimes part of the solution can be found in existing collaborations. This is the thinking behind “Wasserstoff-Hanse” [Hanseatic Hydrogen], an initiative of the German federal state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and the EUREF Energy Innovation (EEI), which was launched in Rostock on 5 August in the presence of prominent businesspeople and politicians.
