Crane Co. Nominates Karen Dykstra for Election as Director

Crane Co. announced the nomination of Karen E. Dykstra, Chief Financial Officer of Automatic Data Processing Inc., for election as a member of the Company's board of directors, subject to approval by shareholders at the Company's annual meeting to be held on April 26, 2004.

Ms. Dykstra has extensive finance and accounting experience with 23 years in financial leadership positions of increasing responsibility with ADP. Currently CFO, her prior two positions with the company were VP Finance, from 2001-2003, and Corporate Controller, from 1999-2001. ADP is one of the largest providers of computerized transaction processing, data communications, and information services in the world, with annual revenues of over $7 billion and approximately 500,000 clients worldwide.

Eric C. Fast, president and chief executive officer said, "We are very pleased that Karen Dykstra has agreed to join Crane Co.'s board of directors. I and fellow members of our board believe her professional background and skills will be an excellent addition to the board. We look forward to her election by shareholders at the annual meeting in April."
