Hydraulic Institute and Valve Manufacturers Host 2003 Fall Management Conference

13.08.2003

The Hydraulic Institute (HI), together with the Valve Manufacturers Association of America (VMA), announces registration for its 2003 Fall Management Conference, to be held October 15 – 18, 2003, at the Broadmoor Resort Hotel in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

HI is joining forces with VMA to provide a compelling, insightful program, featuring notable speakers and events as well as unprecedented networking opportunities for the members of the pump and flow control industries. The added benefit of VMA members in attendance will offer networking opportunities not available elsewhere.

As a prelude to its 2004 Membership Recruitment Drive, HI has opened conference registration to all manufacturers of pumps or pumping systems in the U.S., Canada or Mexico, as well as to suppliers who meet HI membership requirements.* Prospective members may attend an HI program once to experience the benefits of HI membership as they are considering joining the Institute.

“This year’s joint conference will offer extraordinary opportunities for pump manufacturers and suppliers to discuss major issues and trends, share business experiences, and keep abreast of new methods. Our focus will bring timely and invaluable insight on global issues affecting the pump industry, such as the climate of U.S. manufacturing and global competitiveness, legislative initiatives and business trends,” said Robert Asdal, executive director of HI.

Conference highlights include a CEO breakfast and roundtable with presentations by prominent industry experts. The exclusive, by invitation only, CEO Roundtable program is one of the most popular components of the Institute’s meetings with between 40-50 chief executive officers participating.

Several noted speakers will address HI-VMA general sessions. Representing the Center for Strategic & International Studies, Erik R. Peterson, senior vice president and director of studies, and Jay C. Farrar, senior project associate, will make a two-part presentation on The Seven Revolutions and The Seven Futures. In it, they will identify and analyze the issues facing future leaders, including resource management, technological innovation and diffusion, economic integration, global instability and conflict, and the change of governance, among other factors.

During other HI-VMA general sessions, Dr. Eamon McKinney, chief executive officer of the China Business Network, will address the concerns of both exporting to and from China. Michael Baroody, executive vice president of the National Association of Manufacturers, will provide an update on issues regarding taxes, changing global competitive issues, training and skills development, health care and legal system reform. Alan Beaulieu, an economist with the Institute for Trend Research, will present an industry outlook for 2004. Drawing on his experiences, Col. Mike Turner of the United States Air Force (Ret.) will offer his common sense lessons for success during a general session breakfast, and later speak to HI members on selecting the perfect formation flying team.

Recreational events include a joint HI and VMA Men’s and Women’s shotgun golf tournament on the world renowned Broadmoor Golf Course and a tennis tournament at its top-rated tennis resort. HI guests and spouses can partake in a Broadmoor Hotel breakfast and walking tour, culinary demonstration and Jeep tour of the Rockies.

The 86-year old Hydraulic Institute, the largest association of pump producers in North America, serves member companies and pump users by providing product standards and forums for the exchange of industry information.
