Software to Reduce Product Design and Delivery Time
SolidWorks® announced that Weir Pumps has decided to use SolidWorks 3D mechanical design software. The software manufacturer expects that Weir will slash its design time in half and bring its products to market 50 percent faster.
Weir Pumps will standardize on SolidWorks software as it continues to build pump products to suit a broad range of industries including water and wastewater treatment, power generation, mining, manufacturing, and oil drilling and exploration.
A major subsidiary of $1.4 billion Weir Group PLC, Weir Pumps set out to streamline its engineering integration and reduce overall expenses by replacing its 2D design software with 3D mechanical design software. Weir Pumps chose SolidWorks because it gives companies like Weir the functionality to shorten design time and reduce production errors in an easy-to-use environment. SolidWorks helps Weir deliver its products to customers around the world faster than with its previous design software.
“Our clients have high standards for product quality and meeting tight deadlines,” said Nick Muntz, engineering director at Weir Pumps. “SolidWorks software has helped us identify and rectify potential design problems before we get to the manufacturing stage because our engineering teams can easily collaborate on new product designs. Smooth collaboration and easy design fixes help us get the design right the first time and begin production quickly. That’s a significant advantage in a fiercely competitive global market.”
Weir Pumps initially deployed 12 SolidWorks licenses, then expanded to 33, and will expand to more than 40 licenses in the next several months. The company receives ongoing software, implementation, training, and support from SolidWorks’ reseller NT CADCAM.
“Weir Pumps’ products are found worldwide in all industries including oil platforms in the North Sea, wastewater treatment plants in the Middle East, and power plants around the globe including the US and China,” said Simon Booker, SolidWorks sales and marketing director for the UK and Ireland . “With such a wide variety of demands, Weir must meet exact engineering specifications to deliver on its promise of reliability and durability. With hundreds of engineering companies around the world using SolidWorks, it has become the mainstream 3D mechanical design standard that allows global manufacturers like Weir to meet all of their customers’ expectations quickly and accurately.”
