Hydraulic Institute Honors David McKinstry
David McKinstry, vice president of business development for IMO Pump, based in Monroe, North Carolina, has been named the Hydraulic Institute (HI) 2002 Member of the Year.
The award was presented to McKinstry during a closing dinner at HI’s 86th Annual Meeting, held recently in Scottsdale, AZ.
“Dave McKinstry exemplifies a life-long commitment to the Institute and the pump industry. He has been recognized for his tireless hours of professional technical involvement as well as his willingness to confront change and forge new in-roads for the industry. His global perspective and experience has helped lead HI’s evolution in this direction,” said Robert Asdal, executive director of HI.
According to HI Chairman Al Huber, McKinstry has not been shy to volunteer. “Over the years, several committees have benefited from his active involvement, sage advice and leadership. For his sustained efforts on HI committees, for his volunteer leadership roles and for the significant impact he has had within the Institute, the HI Board of Directors is pleased to honor him with the 2002 Member of the Year award.”
Among his many contributions, McKinstry has served on the Institute’s U.S. Technical Advisory Group, the Standards Committee, Metrication Subcommittee, Technical Affairs Steering Committee and Technical Business Planning & Marketing Committee. For years, he served as the Standards Voting Representative for the Rotary Pump Section for his company and continues to be actively involved in the standards-writing process. Through HI, he represents the U.S. pump industry before ISO/TC 115 as head of the U.S. Technical Advisory Group. McKinstry was the first chair of HI’s own ISO Subcommittee (SC3) that deals with “Pump Installation and Special Applications” and has recently been reaffirmed for a second three-year term. Recently, he was one of three delegates invited to attend a key meeting with Europump in Brussels, resulting in important decisions regarding both organizations’ commitment to developing one worldwide ISO standard for pump testing.
McKinstry is a 45-year veteran of the pump industry, having worked for IMO Pump since 1987. Prior to that, he held a series of sales and management positions with Allis-Chalmers Corporation, Pumptron and Corken International. McKinstry is a 1957 graduate of The University of Missouri, Rolla with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
