13.03.2003

Sulzer Pumps Finland Oy received an order of 250 pumps and agitators by the German based Zellstoff Stendal GmbH for a new greenfield pulp mill.

Its production will be ca. 1700 admt/d of bleached softwood market pulp. The start-up of the mill is scheduled for October 2004.

The two selected main process suppliers, Metso Paper and Andritz, ordered 230 AHLSTAR stock/process pumps, recovery boiler feed pumps and other pumps as well as 20 SALOMIX mixing technology products such as horizontal and vertical agitators. The products are used in the most demanding applications in the SuperBatch digester, bleaching plant, pulp drying line, black liquor evaporation plant, recovery boiler and recausticizing plant.

Sulzer Pumps was selected to supply the pumps and agitators based on its experience and knowledge, and the well-proven reliability of its products within the pulp and paper industry. The products are specially developed for the needs of this industry. All the pumps are made of duplex stainless steel cast in Sulzer Pumps’ own foundry in Karhula, Finland. The pumps, agitators and customer support services create high life-cycle value for the end user.

One of the main requirements from the authorities for approval of the new greenfield project was the fulfillment of stringent environmental protection regulations. Sulzer Pumps is a leading global supplier to the selected markets of Pulp and Paper, Oil and Gas, Hydrocarbon Processing, Power Generation, Water and Wastewater, and Food, Basic Metals and Fertilizers, generating an annual turnover of some 650 million euro and employing more than 4,500 people worldwide.
