ITT Flygt, Top 10 in sustainability reporting
ITT Flygt was ranked number nine, in the prestige-filled international ranking of the world’s best sustainability reports, conducted by the British company SustainAbility Ltd. on behalf of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). In the heavy industry category, ITT Flygt came in third place.
“To be ranked within the top ten companies is important recognition of ITT Flygt’s continued work with sustainable development,” says Magnus Enell, ITT Flygt Corporate Manager Sustainable Development.
“The position shows that our sustainability work is of the highest class, especially when compared with much larger companies than ours that have many more resources at hand.”
SustainAbility Ltd’s ranking of the reports is the most prestigious review of its type. Since the first review, which was conducted in 1994, one has been undertaken every second year. In total 100 reports are reviewed and out of these the best 50 are analysed in detail according to context & commitment, management quality, economic performance, social & ethical performance, environmental performance, multidimensional performance and accessibility & assurance. The ability to integrate the different parts of sustainability and the way in which they are reported plays an important role in the overall ranking.
“It is interesting to note that Europe is well represented in the top 50 reports,” says Enell. “31 come from Europe, eight from North America and six from Japan. The other five come from companies in South Africa, Brazil, Australia and New Zealand. It is also clear from the review that economic and social aspects are incorporated more into the reports now that they were before.”
“The challenge that lies ahead for us now at ITT Flygt is not to fall into the trap that SustainAbility noted, that even though the amount of reporting increases, the quality stays at the same level,” concludes Enell.
