The Danish Industrial Association's Product Prize 2002 was awarded to Grundfos on 26 September for its water supply pump SQFlex, which may be driven by solar cells or windmills or a combination of both of these renewable energy sources. An "outstanding" and "ground-breaking" product said the chairman of the Danish Industrial Association, Managing Director Johan Schroeder.

Taking his starting point in last month's summit on sustainable development in Johannesburg, Mr. Schroeder called the SQFlex an excellent example of the will shown by large parts of the Danish business community to produce technologies adapted to the needs of third world countries.

"Reliability, flexibility in the choice of energy source, and simple installation are keywords and add up to reliable water supply in areas where there is no electricity supply", were some of Mr. Schroeder's words about the Grundfos Pump.

CEO and Group President Niels Due Jensen, Grundfos, expressed great pride when he received the Prize on behalf of Grundfos.

"Especially from our friends and partners in the Danish Industrial Association it is a great pleasure to receive this acknowledgement for a product which so clearly reflects one of the "soft" values - sustainability - that we at Grundfos consider of great importance", said Mr. Due Jensen.

He called the award winning product a model product, expressing the key-elements in Grundfos' company values, Be-Think-Innovate - that is being responsible, thinking ahead and being innovative.

This is the eighth time that the Danish Industrial Association's Product Prize has been awarded - and the Grundfos pump competed with 19 other products. Mr. Due Jensen called the prize, "a pat on the shoulder, which encourages us to keep on in our efforts to develop new, trend-setting, and sustainable products."
