From the Hilge GmbH according to Qualified Hygienic Design developed single and multi-stage centrifugal pumps of the Contra-Range get the EHEDG certificate. As part of this development, the Department for Machine and Apparatus Studies in Munich – Weihenstephan was commissioned to test the wet-end part for cleanability using the EHEDG Cleanability Method.

The results of the EHEDG Cleanability Tests showed that the multi-stage centrifugal pumps from the Contra-Range in both 3A1 Hygienic Standard with a max. surface roughness of Ra <3.2 µm

as very easy to clean. The fact that the test pump with the highest surface roughness of max. Ra <3.2 µm achieved the same results as the reference pipe with a surface finish of Ra 0.6 µm in the cleanability test illustrates the optimal construction of the pump. The energy input into a centrifugal pump also contributes to the improved cleaning ability whereby the shear effect on the surface is also increased.

In the final assessment was recognized, that the pump fulfils all the criteria of hygienic design and can be classed as very easy to clean.
