PowerEXPO 2002 in Spain from September 18 – 20

14.06.2002

PowerExpo 2002 will take place at the Zaragoza Trade Fair Centre (Spain) from September 18 through 20, 2002. Judging from the excellent progress of exhibitor bookings, due in large part to the success of its two previous shows, and the intense activity expected in the sector over the coming months, PowerEXPO 2002 will surely be the most significant event in the power sector in Spain this year.

The exhibition will fill Halls 1 and 2. The exhibitor booths are expected to cover a minimum floor space 7,500 m2. Over 150 direct exhibitors are expected to participate. This represents substantial growth over the last show, at which a total of 132 direct exhibitors occupied an area of 6,500 m2.

As it was at the last PowerEXPO, the Spanish Energy Club is in charge of organising the Euro-American Energy Forum with the following main subjects:

  • Deregulation of the Energy Markets
  • Investments and Energy in Latin America
  • Enlargement of the European Union and Energy Development
  • Energy in the Mediterranean Basin

which will be dealt with in one-day or half-day sessions.

In an additional conference programme focussing on business and technology, such issues as Security of Supply and Energy Efficiency will be addressed.

The month of September, when PowerEXPO 2002 takes place, will be a time of maximum intensity for the most important issues in the energy business in Spain. As can be illustrated by the following examples:

  • Completion of the deregulation process of the Spanish energy markets will be just a few months away.
  • Several of the first combined-cycle plants in Spain will have recently gone into operation or will be about to do so.
  • Cogeneration is regaining ground thanks to recent technological advancements, new business strategies and the aid of its associations.
  • The boom of the wind power industry (sustained by demand and important technical improvements) continues in full force in Spain. At the same time the debate livens over the official aids received by this industry.
  • The future of the full spectrum of renewable energy types including biomass and – as mentioned above – wind, is soon to be decided, as the subsidies applicable in each case for the next four years are currently under review.

The Spanish energy sector is, effectively, at a turning point and PowerEXPO (in Zaragoza, from September 18 through 20, 2002) will be the best reflection of its progress and potential.
