Soroosh & Nowrooz Integrated Development Project

29.05.2002

Following extensive negotiations, against a background of keen competition, Weir Westgarth Ltd have been awarded the contract to supply a Seawater Reverse Osmosis Plant for the Soroosh and Nowrooz integrated development project in the Arabian Gulf.

The overall project to develop oil fields in the area is being carried out by Shell, and the supply of the required platforms and infrastructure has been contracted to a consortium of Abu Dhabi based Companies - National Petroleum Construction Company (NPCC) and Technip-Coflexip.

The Weir Westgarth SWRO Plant, which will be used for desalting the produced crude prior to shipment ashore, has an operating capacity of 4,230m3 of fresh water per day, including 50% redundancy to maximise availability.

The project has been awarded on a fast track basis with 27 weeks from contract placement to ex-works delivery. Module construction will take place in the Middle East region, with major items of equipment free issued out of Europe.

Alistair Munro, Weir Westgarth's Sales Director said: "With the placement of this contract Weir Westgarth achieves a diversification from its established credentials in the supply of offshore, fast track Sulphate Reduction Modules, by using similar technologies to meet alternative offshore oil industry needs. The project provides a continued relationship with Technip-Coflexip, and an opportunity to renew the Weir involvement with NPCC and Shell.
