Open-throat pump: no bridge breakers required

29.05.2002

At the International Trade Fair of Environment and Disposal (IFAT) to be held in Munich from 13 -18 April, Frankenthal-based KSB Aktiengesellschaft, Germany, will be introducing a new model of its Getec progressive cavity pump series for highly viscous media in waste water transport and treatment.

The model features a newly designed casing with an open-throat hopper extending the entire length of the suction casing, so that static volumes are prevented.

Even dewatered sludges can be broken up reliably and additional bridge breakers can be dispensed with. The wide hopper opening ensures optimum filling of the pump's hydraulic system with the medium handled, and valuable space can be saved by installing the pump unit directly under the sludge tanks.

The pumps are equipped with two sliding-block joints, which transmit the rotation of the driver to the eccentrically rolling single-helical rotor. A spherical joint rod head transmits the axial forces to a spherical socket, whereas the torque acts on the side faces of the sliding blocks. This design makes for full separation of axial and radial forces.

High torques can be transmitted with small joint diameters. The service life of the joints is increased considerably. Detachable joint heads permit replacement of the rotor and mechanical seal without the need to remove the drive shaft.
