ITT Industries’ Fluid Handling Division announces partnership to manufacture advanced technology climate control modules

Morton Grove, IL - ITT Industries’ Fluid Handling Division has formed a partnership with Ambian® Climate Technologies, LLC. The Fluid Handling Division will become the exclusive manufacturer of advanced technology ammonia-water absorption hardware for Ambian’s alternative fuel, heat-activated cooling and heating products.

Ambian (formerly GAX Ventures, LLC) expects to commercially introduce the products in the United States and Canada in 2003.

Ambian products will include air conditioners, heat pumps, hydronic chillers, chiller-heaters and heat pump/heaters for the residential and commercial markets. “These products are environmentally friendly, halocarbon-free and in many applications will provide a 40 to 50 percent improvement in operating efficiency,” according to Pasquale (Pat) DePalma, president of ITT’s Fluid Handling Division.

Joel Anderson, operating partner of Ambian Climate Technologies, noted that fuel diversification in today’s environment of overloaded electric grids during the summer months has significant benefit to the country at large. “Not only are we providing residential and commercial users with the fuel choice of natural gas and propane for cooling and heating loads, we also have the ability to gainfully employ exhaust heat from on-site generation equipment such as micro-turbines, engines and most fuel cells. Our products are the key to successful implementation of combined cooling, heating and power installations in the 21st century,” Anderson said.

Because of its extensive heat transfer and hydronic systems knowledge and experience, Fluid Handling Division’s Heat Transfer unit was selected to assist in the design and manufacturing development of the new products.

Rocky Research of Boulder City, Nevada was retained as the program and product research and development entity. The development of this advanced technology was initiated in 1997 with special assistance and support from the U.S. Department Energy (DOE) and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. “It is very gratifying to see our strategic vision and engineering achievements materialize and to be able to deliver appreciated results to the early utility and government supporters, particularly the Oak Ridge National laboratory and Ronald Fiskum of the U.S. Department of Energy,” said Dr. Uwe Rockenfeller, CEO of Rocky Research.

ITT Industries’ Fluid Handling Division, headquartered in Morton Grove, Illinois, is a leading manufacturer of pumps, heat transfer equipment, valves, controls and packaged systems used in fluid handling and hydronic systems.
