Eaton Meets Global Hydraulics Needs With New Version of 6000 Series Motor

30.05.2001

EDEN PRAIRIE, MN - Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation continues to meet the needs of the global hydraulics market with the introduction of its Big 6 low-speed, high-torque motor.

Featuring a metric mounting flange and heavy-duty 50-mm shaft, this extension of the Series 6000 product line was developed to meet the specific mounting and application needs of Eaton's global customers. A four-bolt (Code H) mounting flange is standard and features a 200-mm [7.87 inches] bolt circle. The pilot diameter is 160 mm [6.30 inches]. Two new displacements, 737 cm3/r [45.0 in3/r] and 803 cm3/r [49 in3/r], allow even more flexibility in meeting specific torque and speed requirements. The new mounting configuration and displacements combine to provide an exciting drop-in motor for global applications.

It features a special global mount, similar to ISO 3019/2. The 50 mm straight shaft is strong and durable --- ideal for a variety of propel and industrial applications. A 60 mm, tapered shaft and 2.125 inch 16 tooth splined shaft are also available.

Typical uses for the Big 6 include injection molding machines, skid steer loaders and attachments as well as other propel needs. Eaton Hydraulics manufactures and markets worldwide a complete line of hydraulic systems and components for mobile and industrial applications. Its products include Char-Lynn low-speed, high-torque motors and hydrostatic power steering; Eaton light, medium and heavy duty hydrostatic transmissions, piston pumps and motors, radial ball piston pumps, hydrostatic transaxles, gear pumps and motors, valves and cylinders; and Vickers™ cartridge valves, axial piston pumps and motors, vane pumps and motors, controls, filtration products, power units and fluid-evaluation products and services.

The Big 6 is also noted for its efficiency and power density. The design features few moving parts compared to other hydraulic motors, resulting in less friction and thereby greater mechanical efficiencies. The Geroler element also plays a significant role in making the Big 6 efficient. The Geroler is a modified gerotor, which incorporates rollers into the outer gear of the motor. The rollers allow the star to revolve more freely within the outer gear, again, producing less friction than other types of hydraulic motors. The result is enhanced mechanical efficiency and smooth output shaft rotation, even at low speeds. The rolls also provide better sealing of the lobe chambers resulting in higher volumetric efficiency. Consequently, a Geroler motor like the Big 6 can operate at high pressures. The high-pressure capacity and compact envelope combine to produce optimum power density.

The Big 6 is available in seven displacements that range from 310 cm3/r [19.0 in3/r] to 985 cm3/r [60.0 in3/r]. Continuous torques range from 930 Nm [8230 lb-in] to 1685 Nm [14,920 lb-in]. Continuous pressures range from 140 bar [2000 PSI] to 205 bar [3000 PSI]. Maximum speeds range from 153 continuous RPM to an intermittent of 698 RPM. The motor features G1 (BSP) ports. A case drain is available as well as other special features including speed sensors.
