ITT Flygt’s FPC100, pump control without the need for level sensors

29.11.2000

ITT Flygt has released its latest controller, the FPC100, to compliment their Bibo and Ready ranges of drainage pumps. It is designed to control pumps in harsh or cramped conditions where level sensors are impracticable and where it is common practice to leave pumps unattended and running continuously. The new controller has the ability to calculate the optimal pumping cycle, resulting in less wear on parts and reduced power consumption; considerably extending a pump’s life expectancy.

The FPC100 is a new pump controller from ITT Flygt, which can be used in conditions in the construction and mining industries where level regulators are inappropriate, such as cramped or non-level areas, in high temperature liquids, or explosion hazardous locations.

The new controller has been specifically developed to calculate the optimal pump cycle, as pumps operating in these industries are often permanently switched on and left to ‘snore’, which results in unnecessary wear and high energy costs. The FPC100 stops a pump the instant it begins to draw-in air and restart commences after a calculated pause, which is based on the running time prior to stop. The calculation is then performed after every cycle, meaning the water level at restart remains the same regardless of changes in the flow rate.

The controller’s alarm functions include, monitoring stator temperature, phase unbalance, and over and under voltage, plus it ensures the correct rotation of the rotor. The controller’s also has a detailed user friendly display function, which shows the remaining time to the next pump cycle, accumulated running time, number of pump starts, elapsed time since the pump started and power output, all at the touch of a button.
