Lewa Has Completed the Triple Certification Through the EMAS Registration

Upon receiving the registration certificate for the implementation of an environmental management system in accordance with regulation (EC) 1221/2009, Lewa GmbH is now triple-certified.

Back at the beginning of February 2015, the TV confirmed the company s fulfillment of the internationally recognized standard, OHSAS 18001:2007. Shortly before this, proof was again provided that the Leonberg manufacturer of pumps and systems meets the quality management system requirements of ISO 9001:2008. Since then, both management systems have been helping improve quality and workplace safety and health protection in operations. Energy and environmental protection aspects have also been integrated into the workflow and the workstation design as a part of the triple certification. Thanks to the EMAS registration, Lewa also fulfills energy and environmental standards that go beyond DIN ISO 14001.

The EMAS III (Eco Management and Audit Scheme) is an EU voluntary tool and the most sophisticated system of this kind in the world, in which concrete objectives, activities, deadlines and responsibilities are formalized in an environmental program. Furthermore, an EMAS environmental statement is created and made accessible to the public. The current publication was presented to Mr. Bernhard Schuler, Lord Mayor of Leonberg, during the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the new Lewa factory building 5 in February 2016. In the future, the environmental statement is to be updated annually in the form of a status report for achieving the defined objectives and their key performance indicators.

Monitoring direct and indirect environmental aspects
This gives the company s customers transparency with regard to compliance with legal requirements as well as the management system implemented and the associated processes. To perpetuate this, Lewa will monitor all environmentally relevant processes and consumption figures by implementing key performance indicators and data snapshots from now on. These form the basis for the long-term optimization of resources and sustainable procurement, processing and disposal. In doing so, a distinction is made between direct and indirect environmental aspects. The former, such as energy consumption, waste generation or water consumption, occur at the location itself. The latter, such as product-related effects or (employee) traffic, are indirect results of the business activities.

The risk or relevance of the individual points with regard to the environment, the public, legality and profitability have been evaluated in a multi-step procedure and the need for action has been determined as a part of the EMAS. New requirements based on legal changes are complied with through suitable actions. A regular, internal system inspection including compliance with the guideline values as well as the incurred obligations takes place in the form of an environmental audit. The company, the system and the environmental statement are monitored by an authorized expert outside Lewa. Beyond the direct effects of the certification, the jobs at the company are also protected as a result of complying with customer requirements and statutory specifications.
