Allweiler AG, a Colfax Corporation business unit, has received a major order for pipe-bend propeller pumps from a Chinese customer. The eight pumps will be used for salt production and were scheduled for delivery in October of 2010.

A follow-on order for another €0.5-million has already been awarded. Allweiler s products were selected primarily because they are well-adapted to operating conditions encountered during salt production and because Allweiler is able to provide extensive local consultation and service.

The buyer of the eight propeller pumps is Shanghai Tian Yuan International Trading Co., Ltd. The units will be used in a salt production plant located in northeastern China. The October delivery included eight propeller pumps of the "Allpro" product family. The largest of the delivered pumps has an output of 315 kW and is capable of moving up to 18,000 m³ of brine per hour.

Allweiler will deliver an even larger pipe-bend propeller pump in early 2011. Belonging to the "1400" size, this pump will move up to 45,000 m3 of brine per hour and will be the largest pump of this kind ever manufactured by Allweiler. The increasing prevalence of large plants has boosted demand for pumps with very high performance capabilities.

According to Stefan Kleinmann, Vice-President of the Industry business segment and member of the Allweiler AG executive board: "Having our own foundry gives Allweiler AG the ability to deliver very large pumps. We also use materials that are highly resistant to chemicals and wear but which place very high demands on the casting process." Strong references, support from an Allweiler subsidiary in China, and the high efficiency of the pumps were additional factors that helped Allweiler win the contract.

Allweiler considers China to be a major growth market, particularly for propeller pumps. These pumps require a great deal of expert support and consultation for proper configuration. In many cases, the materials, installation, coupling, and drive must be individually adapted to the specific system and pumping task. Stefan Kleinmann adds that decades of experience at Allweiler s main plant in Germany combined with a local presence and specially trained employees at the Chinese subsidiary proved their value in this instance.
