In Septemper 2006, Frankenthal, Germany-based KSB Aktiengesellschaft will be launching a new submersible borehole pump type which meets even the stringent demands of ACS, the French drinking water regulations. The UPA 150C is designed to be used in water supply, irrigation, lowering of ground water levels, pressure boosting and fire protection.

Its impellers are laser-welded for greater ruggedness and stability than conventional spot-welded impellers from other manufacturers. The hydraulically favourable design enables the pump sets to achieve above average efficiencies, resulting in low running costs over the entire service life of the pump. Other benefits are the sturdy drive lantern and the check valve made of investment cast stainless steel as well as a reinforced suction strainer.

The maximum discharge head is 550 metres and the maximum flow rate 90,000 litres per hour. Fluid temperatures up to 40 °C can be handled depending on the motor selected. The entire pump set is constructed of high-grade stainless steel. It is also available in higher grade CrNiMo steel for handling aggressive fluids.

An exchangeable adapter provides a variety of pipe connec¬tion options, offering customers three threaded or flanged connection types each without having to undo the tie bolts. As a result, customers only have to stock a single pump variant, which allows them to reduce their pump and spares inventories. Its simple configuration makes the pump set very service-friendly.

The re-windable electric motors are available in closely spaced sizes, so the optimum drive power can be selected for every application. Couplings and drive flanges have mating dimensions to NEMA standards (NATIONAL ELECTRICAL MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION).
