According to its future operator, "Shuweihat S1" will be the largest privately owned water and power producing plant in Abu Dhabi. Initial investment costs are well above € 1.5 billion. After completion in August 2004, the plant will produce 454,000 cubic metres of water each day. The supply of drinking water is emerging as a first-priority task for countries in the Gulf Region, where the demand for water is expected to increase by 30 percent over the next three years.
